How to disable AssistiveTouch on iPad running iPadOS 18?

I have an ipad running ios18. Somehow assisted touch has started to come up with the grey dot instead of a cursor. I’ve checked all the online comments and have already gone into settings, accessibility and ensured that I’ve turned off the AssistedTouch option, yet the grey dot won’t disappear. I also have restarted the ipad as well after doing this. What else can I try? And is there a way to permanently turn this off unless I’m asked to explicitly turn it on so i don’t accidentally use the keystrokes that turned it on to begin with. Thanks

You are evidently using a Mouse or Trackpad with your iPad - and as such you will see a dot-cursor that corresponds with its on-screen position. This is unrelated to the Assistive Touch feature.

While the size of the dot-cursor can be altered, you cannot change its style from a dot (representing the “touch” point) to an arrowed or other pointer. The pointer can be configured to disappear from view while idle:

Settings > Accessibility > [Accessories] Pointer Control > [Appearance] Automatically Hide Pointer - set to ON

Available information about customising the Mouse/Trackpad pointer can be found here:
