Can I copy clips from Finder/iMovie library.? In other words, not from within iMovie itself.
User/Me/Movies/iMovie Library/Show Package Contents/My Movie/Original media.
Or are the original clips on the drive in some other fashion.?

Yes you can copy, not move, original media from the iMovie library Show Package contents. If you move the clips you will be deleting them from all projects that might be referring to the clips. Copying is OK.
