Can I use the same LaCie Rugged 2TB hard drive as a Time Machine for both old and new MacBooks?

I used a LaCie Rugged 2TB hard drive as a Time Machine for my late-2019 MacBook Pro. MacBook Pro was recently destroyed (accidentally). I successfully transferred the latest (LaCie) Time Machine back-up to a new MacBook Air M4. Can the same LaCie Time Machine be used to back-up the new MacBook Air without losing the 2019 MacBook Pro back-ups? Am hoping I can use the same 2TB LaCie, but fear I may need to just bite the budget and get a new external hard drive. Guidance, please.
