Apple Music requires Face ID since update 18.4.1

So, I recently updated my phone to the new iOS (18.4.1). Since then my Apple Music has required I use Face ID to access. I have searched to figure out how to turn this off, but with no luck.

A second issue is that my CarPlay no longer recognizes Apple Music since the update. All of my other apps auto load to my CarPlay (Apple Maps/podcast/etc) but there is no longer an Apple Music app on CarPlay. I have to log into my phone and access Apple Music (with Face ID) and choose music from my phone. It will play music but will not register the app. So all controls have to go through my phone.

I'm about to sign up for Spotify as I use Apple Music 90% of the time when I’m in the car. I get this is a first world problem but why take the compatibility away after having it for years?

Either you accidentally locked the Apple Music app or someone that knows your Passcode did. You can unlock the app so it longer needs Face ID to open it by following these steps.

  1. Go to the Home Screen.
  2. Locate the app you want to unlock.
  3. Touch and hold the app icon until the quick actions menu opens.
  4. Tap Don’t Require Face ID (or Touch ID or Passcode), then authenticate using Face ID (or Touch ID or a passcode).

I suspect that is why you are having the CarPlay issue with the locked app as well. You can lock any app on your phone, even Spotify, and it would do the same thing.
