In February 2025, I bought a Mac Mini then migrated from my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) to my current Mac Mini M4 Pro. The Mac Mini is probably running Rosetta.

About: Mac Mini 2024 M4 Pro. 64 GB Memory. macOS Sequoia 15.4.1. Apple Pro Display XDR with NO MICROPHONE and NO SPEAKER. No Audio app. No VST plugins.

The Apple Pro Display XDR is connected with an Apple Thunderbolt 5 cable to one of the three Thunderbolt 5 ports in back.

An external Lacie backup drive is connected with an Apple Thunderbolt 4 cable to one of the three Thunderbolt 5 ports in back. Time Machine backs up the Mac Mini M4 Pro once a week.

On 2025.04.27 I changed some settings then Shut Down.

Apple > System Settings > Apple Intelligence and Siri >

Apple Intelligence: OFF

Siri: OFF

Adobe Elements 2021 Organizer > Preferences > Media-Analysis >

Generate Auto Creations: OFF.

On 2025.04.29 I uninstalled an Adobe desktop app the Shut Down.

On 25.05.02 I changed some settings then Shut Down.

Settings > Desktop & Dock > Click wallpaper to reveal desktop change to Only in Stage Manager

Settings > Desktop & Dock > Drag Windows to screen edges to tile OFF

Settings > Desktop & Dock > Drag Windows to menu bar to fill screen OFF

Usually, I Logout after each time I use the Mac Mini.

Occasionally, I only Lock the Screen.

Why is Memory allocated, but not freed after closing the app that was using the Memory?

Why does audiomxd need an ever-increasing Memory Allocation to manage the internal speaker on a Mac Mini? I have no external speaker or microphone.

I just now ran EtreCheckPro, and no malware was found. Here are screenshots of Activity Monitor.

Preferences are still set to the following:

Apple Intelligence: OFF

Siri: OFF

Show items In Stage Manager: Uncheck

Uninstall the Creative Cloud desktop app

Click wallpaper to reveal desktop change to Only in Stage Manager

Activity Monitor provides an important capability in identification of apps that are experiencing concerning trends in CPU Time, memory usage, and ports.

EtreCheckPro is very useful in identification and removal of likely suspects which may be causing the concerning trends.

GPG meant "Gnu Pretty Good" encryption.

SENA is communication software to manage my motorcycle helmet headset.

They're both intended for x86_64 and could be causing trouble given my current architecture.

The Screen was Locked most of the time between the previous measurement and the following measurement:

While the user was Logged In and the Screen was Locked, CPU Time, Memory, and Ports remained

almost unchanged.

Logged Out then connected both the Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard to wall chargers overnight.

Logged In.

Time Machine performed a weekly backup on 2025-05-26 at 1:02 PM. Perhaps, it's related to the increase in Ports.

Also, I launched Apple Music and Amazon Music and synced my iPhone and backed up my iPhone to iCloud and to the Mac Mini. Both of those Music apps may have used audiomxd.

Ports increased from 169,999 to 184,332 after a couple of notification chimes just now sounded on the Mac Mini. The settings on the Mac Mini generate a chime for the following events: 1) a Reminder, 2) an arriving Text. Do these events cause audiomxd to increase Ports on macOS 15.5 Sequoia?

The settings on my iPhone iOS 18.5 allow only a vibration -- no audio. The iPhone vibrated only -- no sound.

If audiomxd memory increases while the Mac Mini is Shut Down, that would be good to know.

Currently, the Mac Mini is set to never sleep. Here's the reasoning behind that decision.

If the Mac Mini were to sleep every night, then the external LaCie backup drive would probably sleep or power down, too. This might require the backup drive to power up to start its disk spinning every morning, which, over time, would likely decrease its Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF).
