SAME SAME.
Macbook Pro M1.
This is a new issue, it was not in existence before. Before posting, I did happen to ensure this was not limited to my Macbook Pro M1, but crossed over to our other Macbook laptops & iMac. It does. All are on same Mac OS. Here is list:
MacBook Air - M2, iMac 2021, MacBook Pro - M4
No sluggish-ness seen on iPhones, iPad, iPad mini, but all using Brave or Firefox Focus, so likely that is why.
ISSUES WITH SAFARI:
-- Restart to fix is no longer working. Nor did shutdown.
-- Causing major issues with Gmail (in browser) sending -- glitching almost every time I press "send," and can take up to 2-3 minutes to send emails.
-- When you type into address bar, you have no idea if it takes.
-- Had to turn off auto-fill because the lag is causing headaches on form filling (it is overriding what you put in, now causing errors, etc).
-- Pins and bookmarks are getting painfully slow to load.
-- Passwords using Touch ID are sometimes so slow to load that the site times-out the attempt and calls it a failed attempt.
-- Amazon and sites that "background update" are particularly sluggish to load. Also, oftentimes, if I select a different option on an Amazon page (i.e. a different size of same product), the page "freezes" and takes a good 60-120 seconds to re-load the new option. In addition, due to lagging clicks with cursors, where I have clicked on one page, it now thinks I have clicked on a different page, causing something else to add, change, load. Extremely annoying.
-- Tabs kept open more than 30 minutes "white out" if you try and scroll down, and they have to be re-loaded.
STEPS TAKEN TO TRY TO REMEDIATE:
-- Checked broadband -- Had Comcast out to check wireless, using speed tracker online (not Comcast's), and broadband fine. Also have iMac hard-wired in via cord. Also laptop used elsewhere and issue persists, so it's not the broadband.
-- Disabled any and all add-ons used in Safari on all laptops & desktop-- not all had them, but here is list as an FYI: AdGuard, Google Drive, and two cut/paste to allow "read later".
-- Cleared history daily instead of weekly.
-- Cleared everything under Advanced, incl. passwords, cookies, etc. on the daily. (this is also really irritating, but whatever is needed).
-- Kept as few tabs open as needed (1-3, usually).
-- Ran Safari with absolutely nothing running in background or open on the Mac/laptop.
-- Tried private mode.
EVIDENCE THIS IS LIMITED TO SAFARI:
-- All Mac laptops & desktop in home have this issue, does not matter the amount of RAM, processor speed, size of HD, type of Mac, connection to internet, nor availability of any of these things when launching Safari. Example: The MacBook M4 glitches with 82% of 64 RAM free and 65% free of 1TB free.
-- Installed Orion. Ran it. Not a single issue. Opened 8 tabs. Left open 4 hours. No issues. Left open 18 hours. No issues.
-- Repeated Orion test using Firefox. Not a single issue.
-- Repeated tests using Firefox. No issues.
-- MacBook M4 had no other browsers installed at time it started glitching, but ended up having to install Firefox to have functioning browser.
-- Both Orion and Firefox also have no issues being run with other heavy-power/memory apps running along in the background.
Hopefully this helps with sourcing the issue, or at least having ideas for where it may be lurking.
