PDF editing with Preview problem

I have a legal form which opens in preview. It does fine until I get to the sections where I have to create a large document. Then if I need to change a word or add an item, that line becomes super small. I try using all the icons at the top of the page, along with the change field or redo field. Nothing makes a difference. One day, I must have hit one of the function keys accidentally because a small box with font selections opened on the right. I can't get it to do that again. I have tried downloading the same form (about 38 pages) from another website. Is it possible to delete preview and reinstall it? This is a legal form and I don't think the state of IL wants us to be able to complete it!!

Apple's Preview is not a PDF Editor. It can only apply annotations as a layer above PDF content, combine PDFs, or allow you to fill some PDF forms. The PDF form designer has set the font attributes and form field behavior for the PDF and you cannot change these without a true PDF Editor that understands Adobe's Acrobat JavaScript (AcroJS) used in forms.

You cannot delete or re-install Apple's Preview as it is installed on the read-only System volume.

Consider using the free current Adobe Acrobat Reader as it has more advanced form handling than Apple's Preview.
