How can I return to the main text in Apple Pages after inserting an EndNote?

Until now, whenever I inserted an endnote, all I had to do was double-click on the little number at the beginning of the endnote and it would return me back to where I had been in the main text. Inexplicably, it has stopped doing that. (I saw a suggestion that I could hit Command+J, but that also does not work.) What did I do to make that stop working and what can I do about it.
