Safari Crashes - Terminating Reason: Namespace SIGNAL
One of my users continues to experience consistent crashes in Safari 18.3.1 on macOS 15.3.2. Every time the terminating reason is the same: Namespace SIGNAL, Code 6, Abort Trap: 6.
I've walked the user through and confirmed the following troubleshooting steps:
- Cleared cookies, caches, and all time history
- Deleted com.apple.SpeakSelection.plist from /User/<your-username>/Library/Preferences per Safari 17.5 crashes on launch every time.… - Apple Community recommendation.
- Checked for Safari extensions running in background - none present
- Checked for VPN running in background - none present
- Crowdstrike Falcon is present but does not cause this issue on other university computers
- Check firewall status - off
- Restarted several times
This crash can happen at any time on any website. We have not found any consistent factors. No other users on our campus have reported this issue so it is clearly the user's MacBook Pro or something configured on it.
My university is not recommending macOS 15.4 with Safari 18.4 due incompatibility with Crestron AirMedia app; otherwise, I would update immediately.
