Unable to use a Canon MP610 printer with my new MacBook Air with macOS 15.4.

Recently purchased a new MacBook Air with macOS Sequoia 15.4. However, I am unable to print on my Canon MP610 from my new laptop. Old laptop was a MacBook Pro purchased in 2015, which was operating with macOS Monterey 12.7.6. I don't really want to have to purchase a new printer. Have phoned Canon and they told me that my printer is not supported by macOS Sequoia.

My MacBook Pro still works and I can go to a saved file in iCloud and print from there, but its a bit of mucking around.

Has anyone got any suggestions has to how I can use my printer with my new MacBook Air?

canon are being not fully truthful with you, it's never up to macOS to support third-party hardware, it's the third-party hardware manufacturers like canon to provide drivers which enable macOS (and windows or linux for that matter) to communicate with the hardware, in this case the printer

problem is that its costly for manufacturers like canon to develop and test drivers for newer operating systems for printer models they don't sell anymore so they sort of pref you to buy a new printer where the busniess case for them making software for the newer model is more favourble in the eyes of the board of the company.

the gutenprint linked to are people working for free bringing life to abandoned printers, if it was me then I would give it a look

As you have discovered, older printers need to have drivers which work with your specific operating system. When a printer is no longer supported, sometimes trying the latest driver will work. You can download it and try it. If not, click on the kink below where volunteers have written drives for printers which are no longer supported. You may find one there which does work. Good luck.
