How can I sync Gmail and Google Calendar events to my iPhone?

On my PC, I have gmail and a google calendar. They usually work great with the google calendar on my iPhone. However, recently I have noticed that any event that is created by an email (i.e. open table invite, or tickets to an event), show up on my computer but NOT on my iPhone. I would love to solve this.
