Siri Significantly Downgraded After iOS 18.1 Update Rollback – Major Functional Limitations

After updating to iOS 18.1, I experienced a significantly enhanced version of Siri. It displayed a full-screen interface with a glowing overlay and seemed to be integrated with ChatGPT or a similar AI assistant. Siri was capable of performing advanced tasks such as shutting down the iPad, responding to complex queries, and offering a much more responsive and intelligent experience overall.

However, after a recent update or possible rollback, Siri has reverted to its old, limited behavior. It no longer supports system-level commands like shutting down the iPad, and frequently responds with: I don’t understand, it is beyond my abilities. It feels like a major downgrade in both intelligence and functionality.

This change is extremely disappointing, especially after seeing what Siri was truly capable of. I’m hoping this is not the final version going forward, and that the enhanced Siri will return in a future update. Otherwise, the current version feels outdated and underwhelming.

Please clarify what happened with the advanced Siri version and whether it will be reintroduced.

Thank you.

Yes, I’ve already checked Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri, and Apple Intelligence is turned on. I’ve also restarted this setting multiple times to be sure.

In the earlier version I experienced (most likely iOS 18.1), Siri appeared with a bordered square overlay that covered the entire screen. It felt immersive, intelligent, and clearly connected to a more powerful assistant—possibly ChatGPT or something similar. I was able to give it system-level commands like shutting down the device, and it executed them flawlessly.

Now, after a recent update or rollback, Siri has reverted to the previous behavior—with just the small glowing orb in the bottom-right corner. It feels like a complete downgrade in terms of intelligence and functionality. Around 90% of the time it just says it can’t help or that the command is beyond its ability.

Also, just to clarify — when you ask Siri to shut down your iPad or iPhone, does it actually perform the command for you? Or does it also respond with something like “Sorry, I can’t do that”? I’m really curious to know if this limitation is happening for everyone or just specific users.

This downgrade is frustrating, especially after seeing what Siri was truly capable of. I really hope this isn’t the final version and that the enhanced version of Siri (or Apple Intelligence) returns in a future update.
