Can't send system reports
Apple logo > “about this mac”>”software”>”sync services". and then "file"> send to apple…
eventually there is an error that it was having a problem communicating with apple.
- I quit VPN
- Logged in to this apple page, password checks out
- locked and closed system prefs especially time machine because I had my external drive hooked up for back ups.
- I ejected the drive
- I turned off protection in kasperski which i never use( i turned it on and then off)
- I quit kasperski
I regenerated and re-sent the report to apple each time i did the above in that order, same error.
Regarding the report: from 3/27 —There was some kind of identity crisis because I believe I had just installed Express VPN. some time later , not instantly , but over the course of 2 to 5 hours there was this log in identity issue with any application I used. Keychain requested the key for the app, then the login key and then again the login key . Going in circles. I ultimately turned off vpn . Then I couldn't login anymore. Disk utility couldn't find any data for the normal users nor any other data at one point after a login…
I powered down . and powered up again this time with bluetooth and handoff turned on on my other devices. I used my iPad to communicate with my macbook air first and then everything went back to normal.
What I know is i was in the process of updating my user email, bc as it so happens EVPN ,by default ,still had that ancient email on file when I renewed my subscription ( I stopped using the vpn for a couple years).
EVPN is one of the last apps to refer that particular username; one I stopped using decades ago bc it may have been compromised and also bombarded with phishing and scams. It has since turned up , without me willing to use it, or asking (suggestive generative AI may have snatched it up, and thought they would even make me a brand too. I don't even have a business, let alone a brand. oh Social media, no branding myself here neither.
I've been basically facing this demon and restricting it blocking and deleting messages and cutting ties to any important emails . checked all settings that would allow it to turn up somewhere. taken it down from almost all apps and websites it had previously been on. I don't sync across gmail accounts even though I was forced to turn it on and off on order to trouble shoot these sudden changs to my account last year, as well as educating myself what a brand was in the context of digital social media and business marketing.
One more thing that I believe is playing a major factor. I just finished dusting , cleaning , repairing a G5 tower from the 90's. In my excitement, I connected to airport in order to get a couple apps working on that old device, and then quickly back off again. I was weary of doing so , but wasn't sure why…just the idea of bringing this old vulnerable machine into my network seemed like I was creating a weak point or vulnerability. This all happened on the same day if not just after . between keychain chaos and this , i really thought I lost it all.
But I quickly changed” locations “ in the tower's airport , so as to not to sync up with the current network settings. Things started recovering, but i even turned off the bluetooth keyboard, and after i turned off airport on the tower.
I mainly use a MacBook air 13”2015 ish
The iPad is way newer, but i don't have the model with me nor can see the specs in system report . I see several iPhones, then "wi-fi”which think would be the iPad, and then something else on the network that day, that uses 802.11 technology, so that seems like the tower because it has the antenna screwed in the back .
I use an iphone 14 2023, but my airport on macbook air picks up my dead iphone 13 2022. Its not powered on but still has its sim in it . idk.
I am currently trying to troubleshoot how to uninstall kasperski, but I can't open the preferences for it . So I tried to see if it would turn up in system reports and didn't see it . However I did see the report for the incident described above and would love to get any leads or input on the matter.
thanks
