Removing the background image in album view Photos App iPadOS 18.4

Ah— it appears at night! (My iPad is set to auto.) So I did get it to work (or fail, actually.) it’s awful— worse than I thought! Thanks for clarifying all the requirements of this bug! Have you reported to Apple?

Thanks a lot! I was about to go mad by now. I am so fed up and disappointed with what apple has become. Bugs and terrible design choices seems to be piling up and dragging the whole thing down in the mud.

This solution is the correct one. As many of you might have already surmised, you can also turn this setting off across all apps, although in my experience this has only been a major issue with the Photos app.

To turn off for all instances (best option for Dark Mode users like me):

Go to Settings —> Accessibility —> Display and Text Size —> Reduce Transparency

OR

Use pulldown search to find “Reduce Transparency” and this will take you directly to this setting which you can turn OFF.

Turning off "Reduce Transparency" fixed it for me, because the background image is supposed to be transparent.

I found the answer in a Reddit Post.

I did this and it worked !!

No more background photo in album view !!

I copy/pasted this from the post.

This happens when you have dark mode and reduce transparency turned on.

Easiest way to fix if you want to leave them on at a system level is to go to settings > Accessibility > Per-app settings and add Photos with reduce transparency turned off (or dark mode).

Well, I'm feeling a bit nannyish, myself. The best answer is supposed to be right at the top-- the default setting here is to put highest "rank" first. But sometimes the highest rank is just the one with the longest rant, so you can't really count on that. I set the order to the newest first, thinking the value ought to be increasing as people read through the thread-- but that doesn't always work, either.

We're all subject to the "ninny" effect.

I’ve gone through all the answers suggested on here and I still can’t see photo albums in the way that I want to. I just want to see the photos and thumbnails in albums and I don’t want a background. I don’t want them in a little collage pattern. It’s infuriating. what is going on? It’s just happened tonight to me. How do I get rid of this? This is what I see when I’ve turned accessibility option for the photo app as everyone suggested on here. I don’t just get it in dark mode , I get it in the daytime too in light mode. I really hate this Photos app now with a passion.

Take a blank, black photo and add it to every album. Adjust its position in the album so it is the one that shows behind the thumbnails.

18.4 is no different for me with this.

Still an issue in 18.5. The black photo added to every album is a non-starter, unworkable, untenable suggestion. I have hundreds of albums.
