How can I return lost and found iPod to its owner?

I was looking for rocks in a creek and near the I found iPod and I need to return it to the owner.

You don't track a device back to its owner. Depending on the model, the iPod owner can mark the device as lost and provide contact information if they wish and that will appear when the device is turned on. It is up to the owner if they choose to do this or not. They may still have the option to track the device if it has power and there is an iPhone nearby to transmit its location. For that reason, it is best to take it to a local lost and found or police station, so if the device has power, they can locate it and pick it up.
