Cannot play purchased movies on Apple TV

I can no longer play my bought movies on apple tv as it says cannot communi8cate with itunes

  1. Verify if there is a service outage: System status - Apple Support
  2. Try restarting your router, your Apple TV box, and any optional other powered network gear in between.
  3. Verify if you are still signed in for iTunes services, in Settings﹥iTunes﹥
  4. Verify if the Apple TV box reports a failed activation, in Settings﹥General﹥About﹥
  5. Else contact the Apple Support staff for further assistance.

My apple tv started failing to play movies earlier this week. I did all of the recommended steps and nothing worked either. Still received the error “unable to communicate with itunes store. Try again later.” Contacted apple support. Four people and 90 minutes later of redoing everything I had already done and still no solution. Recommend buying a newer apple tv. It seems someone, apple or internet providers changed something and moved the device to planned obsolescence status this week. My 3rd generation apple tv works in every other way. Oh well.
