Calls to child’s cellular Apple Watch go straight to voicemail

I am so frustrated — my texts and phone calls don’t go through to my son unless he unlocks his watch. I’ve deleted duplicate contacts, done all the troubleshooting and nothing works. The watch is nothing but a watch since communication rarely works on it.

I updated the watch to the latest WatchOS 10.1, but am still getting the same. Declining calls on my iPhone still sends the call to voicemail as expected. No voicemail on Apple Watch phone app Hey, when I click phone App on Apple watch, keypad. I put this number. Called 3 times this morning to let me know if you have ABA tonight, I said hello, are u there? And hanged up the phone this morning. The option is call this number again later today, I waited for that. No voicemails yet, is it possible to leave the voicemail? No one is there, sorry to hear that my Apple Watch keeps ringing but I didn’t pick up calls. What should you do? Thank you [Edited by Moderator]

No calls on apple watch unless phone is on I have a cellular Apple Watch, but it only rings if the iPhone is on. If I turn the iPhone off then the calls go to voicemail. Not sure why this is the case? Any advice?
