Use this as your guide. It is current with Pages v14.3 features.
Pages User Guide for Mac - Apple Support
The very first thing you do when you create a Pages document, and before you enter any content, is to select File menu > Save… and give it a proper name instead of Untitled.pages. Also, pay attention where you are saving it as it will remember that Save location for other documents until you change it in another Save panel. With this done, you have enabled Pages autosave and versioning, and you won't lose document content because you didn't save the document.
When you are done, close the document and from the File menu, select Quit. That closes the document and quits Pages. Now you can select the document icon in the Finder with a single click and by pressing the space bar, view the document in Apple's Quick Look, allowing you to scroll through its pages.
You can also export the Pages document in other document formats from the File menu > Export To panel. Then, click the Save… button on that Export To panel and it will be similar to the above process of saving a document. If it is a Portable Document Format (PDF) document, you can use the Quick Look approach, or double-click it and it will open in Apple's Preview, a PDF reader. If you are exporting in Word DOCX format, because you are sharing with other users that may be using MS Word, the Quick Look view may be faithful to what a user with Word would see, and neither Word or Pages documents can be opened in Apple's Preview application.
You can re-open previously saved Pages documents with Pages by double-clicking them in the Finder.
