Shut down error macOS Ventura - MacBookPro14,1 - A1708 -  3164

Apple MacBook Pro "Core i5" 2.3 13" Mid-2017 Specs

Identifiers: Mid-2017 13" - MPXQ2LL/A* - MacBookPro14,1 - A1708 -  3164

MacOs Ventura installed. I have tried with two differens hard drives.

I start Ventura and keep the machine running. After some hours the computer shut down. The screen shows:

If I have the adapter cable attached and I restart the same picture shows. If I unplug the power adapter cable next picture shows

And after a few seconds the Ventura starts loading. starting with the following picture

Any clue? Anywhere I can see (log?) the reason of this behavior?

Your system is experiencing a kernel panic. This could be due to a hardware failure, or in some cases some bad system extension.

Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here. Use the "additional text" button and paste the report into the text box.

By looking at the report we will know more about your system and perhaps have a better notion of what may be causing the kernel panic.

When I bought this Mac the disk was according to below. I don't know if this is the original disk. I experienced the same issue with that disk. That's why I tried to change disk; but with the same result.

I am not aware of having 'You did turn off SIP and system security updates'. I just installed Ventura with option-command-r.

Boinc I installed in order to have a program running on the Mac to see how it worked.

On the sellers recommendation I have ordered a new hard drive with part number 656-0076B.

Since you are mentioning that the issue might be related to disk access I hope the new disk might solve the problem.

Is there anything you think I can test while waiting for the new disk to arrive?

Many thx so far, impressed!

If I understand correctly, you seem to have installed a third party ssd inside this mac.

The error seems to be related to disk access.

It also mentions a "third party controller".

You did turn off SIP and system security updates; maybe this was to allow installing some unsupported drive?

If that is the case, then I am sorry, it is way out of my expertise.

You also installed BOINC, which if I'm not mistaken, is an emulator to run a different OS. It did not seem to crash, but if it connects to the system at a deep level I wonder if it is modifying something that results in a big crash.

It could also be the SSD adapter you are using. The only SSD adapter that seems to be most compatible & reliable is from Sintech, but I don't know if they make one for this model or if it would have the same compatibility & reliability since it took them some time to iron out the kinks in the adapter used in the older Macs.

I would not spend any money on this laptop since it has so many known & less known issues, plus if the battery has not been replaced recently (or the Top Case/Keyboard/Palmrest which also includes the battery), then you may be needing to replace the battery as well or sometime in the near future. FYI, the SSDs in this particular model laptop has an extremely high rate of failure which I'm guessing you already experienced if you are using a third party SSD. An replacement Apple OEM SSD you use will also have this same high chance of failure as well especially if it is a used SSD.
