issues using microphone with garageband

I have just started to use GarageBand to record voice overs and have purchased a ZealSound K66 microphone. When the microphone is attached I can select it as input with no problems however when I use it there is hardly any waveform showing in the track. I am on the latest version of GarageBand 10.4.12. When I use the microphone on a different laptop which has version 10.4.8 it seems to work fine. Any ideas why my set-up is acting differently??

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 14.5

I only have two of those modes available and have tried both. There is very little difference between them. I even have the input level at maximum within sound settings and on the microphone and still I don't get much of a waveform showing
