Apple FreeForm lacks basic functionality to link documents within its own ecosystem - Here´s how to fix those links!

FreeForm allows users to insert links.

I have encountered major issues with two essential types of links that do not function as expected, despite working seamlessly in other Apple applications like Pages and Notes.

Links to Pages Documents: For example, the following link does not work in FreeForm:

https://www.icloud.com/pages/0ecVpXIwGRfss34sdad21dq2e1

Error Message: I don't have privileges to access this document, or the document has been deleted.

Deep Links to Other Apps:

Links formatted as type:// are also non-functional. (Despite working in Apple Pages & Apple Notes)

As a user who switched to Apple primarily for FreeForm as an alternative to Miro, I find it disappointing that I cannot link to Apple Pages documents or other app links. In contrast, all those links work flawlessly in Apple Pages and Apple Notes, opening the apps with the correct documents or destinations.

I have already submitted feedback through the official channels, but I wanted to raise further awareness about this issue. It seems that FreeForm, as a whiteboard app from Apple, lacks basic functionality to link documents within its own ecosystem, which is something that other Apple applications handle effectively.

So, what is the solution?

You can go through the process of sharing every single document with everyone who has access to this link. Keep in mind that anyone on the internet can access your document if they get their hands on this link.

As far as deep links go, I have no solution.

If you're also frustrated with the same or similar issues and know a workaround until Apple fixes these problems, please let us know in the comments.

Until then, thank you for your attention to this matter.

I look forward to seeing improvements in FreeForm that align with the seamless integration Apple is known for.

This is the Pages support community, not for issues with Freeform. You indicated you had already provided feedback to Apple. As no Apple employees participate in these public, fellow user-supported communities, there is no one here to fix your current conundrum with Freeform or instigate any Freeform improvements.

"Please let us know in the comments" is a survey statement and the Apple Support Communities terms and conditions exclude posting survey-style questions here.

You may be seeking solutions to Freeform that either were and remain never intended, or Apple may/may not make the changes you have requested. No one here knows internal Apple product and design intentions.

I appreciate the thoughtful responses to my post, and I’d like to clarify. Apple Freeform isn’t currently an option to select in this Community. Also my aim was to address an issue related to Apple Pages links.

Given that the main focus of my post revolves around linking and accessing Apple Pages documents, I felt it was appropriate to share it within the Pages community. This way, users facing similar challenges can easily find a solution.

I also want to clarify that asking for solutions or insights in the comments is a fundamental part of what makes this community valuable. The phrase "Please let us know in the comments" is an invitation for collaboration and sharing, which aligns with our goal of helping one another solve problems. With your impressive experience and almost 120,000 points, I'm sure you understand that fostering discussions around solutions is essential. We all want to create a supportive environment where everyone can contribute, and it's important to recognize that the essence of our community is to work together towards resolving issues.

Let’s focus on sharing our knowledge and helping one another instead of gatekeeping the conversation. We're all here to learn and assist.
