Why does Pages keep reverting to its default location when saving documents?

When I save a document the location is always reverting from the location on the drop-down list I chose to Pages. I cannot change any location from Pages, no matter what I choose from the list on the drop-down.

Normally, Pages will continue to save to the last saved location until you manually change that location on the Save panel. In the Save panel, adjacent to that Where location pop-up is an up/down arrow. If that arrow is pointing down (hence a conservative panel interface), then click it so it points up and you have a full-sized Finder-like window with a Favorites sidebar. That will give you more options for places to save your documents.

Once you expand that Save panel, Pages will remember that setting too.

For any of you who are having this same problem, it is not something you have done. I was on with Apple Support for a couple hours yesterday. I was on with an Apple representative who helped me name and file documents in the proper location. While your document is open click on "File" then rename and name your document. Then click on "Move to" and select the file where your document should go and save. This is frustrating as it takes much longer than clicking on the "Untitled" dropdown and filling in the "name", "where", and "tags" information. It turns out that your not being able to do this from the document directly is an Apple/Sequoia problem and it is not limited to Pages, it affects other documents as well, such as spreadsheets and the like. Apple is working on a fix. Thanks to Viking OSX who spent so much time trying to help me with a problem that turned out to be an Apple problem that does not have a solution so far. I currently am running Sequoia 15.3.2. I am looking forward to this problem being fixed! It would be nice if Apple had a clickable category on their homepage listing such problems as I spent many hours trying to fix something that was not my problem.

You have Pages set to write to iCloud. You can change this behavior. Close any open document and press ⌘Q to formally quit Pages.

In System Settings, click on your name and avatar to expose iCloud in the subsequent panel. Click that iCloud item and it will open a new panel where you will see Saved to iCloud [ See All ]. Click that button and scroll down on the resulting panel until you come to Pages. Disable that Pages slider and click Done.

The next time you launch Pages, it will now show you the Template chooser by default and you will no longer see a Pages folder on iCloud Drive as it is now hidden from you and the Pages application. What we have discussed previously should now allow you to regain access to your local drive for save locations.

See if this also resolves your initial file saving and document naming from Untitled.pages.
