WhatsApp shutting down issue since IOS 18.3.1 update.

Hello,

Since installing update 18.3.1 on my iPhone 14 I seem to have an issue with WhatsApp, that was not present before hand.

Basically I go into the App, start typing, then it chucks me out !

When I go back in it is as if the app is reloading, and any text I have started to type is wiped.

It happens every time I open the App, once, and then works as it should.

Yes I have tried all the usual tricks, but these make no difference.

As said, before the update there were no issues whatsoever.

Anyone else experiencing this ?

iPhone 14 Plus, iOS 18

Users commonly suspect it was from an iOS update without realizing that there has been 10 updates to WhatsApp in just the last month, with the most recent one being 3 days ago to further fix bugs. That is about 1 update every 3 days and would not be surprised if one of those coincided with your iOS update where the issue is likely caused by the WhatsApp update.

The latest version of WhatsApp is 25.5.74, but you can expect another shortly based on previous history. Many times users find that deleting the app and reinstalling solves the problem and that is partly due to the fact that redownloading will be the latest version where the app may have not automatically updated yet on the device.

Facebook experienced the same problem, where the last update, 2 days ago, said it fixed bugs and resolved crashes. Meta is known for solving one problem with an update and creating 2 more, which is why you see so many updates. You are the tester as they are clearly not testing their updates before they are released.

This keeps happening and I lost my WhatsApp data because it was frustrating. Any fixes in sight?

Any fix for WhatsApp will not come from Apple and you will have to wait for an update from Meta. It has been updated 11 times in just the last month to fix bugs. By default, those updates happen in the background and most are not even aware that it has been updated and experience a new bug. Unfortunately Meta does not have a Support Forum where users can discuss these issues, so all you can do is attempt to contact Meta.

You are assuming the iOS corrupted it. 99.9% of the users have updated with no problems. Your other apps are running ok, right?

If the app is not corrupted, (and you HAVE installed a fresh copy of WhatsApp and NOT from backup, have you?) some other files (preferences etc) could have been corrupted and causing the app to crash. That can always happen regardless of whether you updated or not.

If the problem persists, you should perhaps contact WhatsApp support.

Yep, all that !

Then the only way the app would be corrupted would be because the IOS update corrupted it.

No issues before update, install update.........issue.

It's not a big problem, just annoying it does it halfway through a typing a message. Then the message is lost.

When you go straight back in to does not manifest the issue again. Only when you've closed down and back after a while.

Again I emphasise, pre update no issues with the app whatssever. Post update, this issue.
