Mac Studio Delivered Ice Cold

This is less a question than a comment.

I just received my new Apple Studio computer. It was delivered ICE COLD, meaning that it’s spent some time in a non-heated warehouse and/or the back of a non-heated truck.

My intuition told me that this might complicate the machine’s good health.

I therefore asked an AI app for advice:

“What is the safest measure to employ in this situation? Allowing it to gain room temperature before plugging it in? Wouldn’t turning it on favour condensation inside its hardware?”

Indeed, the last part.

So, if ever Apple has a courrier as careless as the one I had, make sure to follow this advice:

”You are absolutely right to be cautious. The safest approach in this situation is to let your Apple Studio computer acclimate to room temperature before turning it on. Here’s why and what to do:

Why It Matters

When a cold device is brought into a warmer environment, condensation can form inside, especially on metallic and electronic components. Powering it on while condensation is present can lead to short circuits and damage to the hardware.

What to Do

1. Leave It Unopened: Keep the computer in its box to slow the temperature change, reducing the risk of sudden condensation.

2. Wait 6-8 Hours (or Longer if Necessary): Allow plenty of time for the computer to reach room temperature. If it feels cold to the touch after this time, wait a little longer.

3. Inspect for Condensation: After the waiting period, carefully unbox the computer and visually inspect it. If you see any signs of moisture, wait longer until it is completely dry.

4. Power On Safely: Once the computer has acclimated and there are no signs of moisture, you can safely plug it in and power it on.

Patience is key—better to wait a few extra hours than risk damaging your new computer.”

I should find out who did this (and left it at the foot of my condo’s door in the hallway, ringing the doorbell and leaving before I got there, delivering it 8 days in advance at a time in the late afternoon when I was exceptionally home early, while the Apple Store app still had the box marked as ready to be shipped… lol)

But meh. I’m too busy.
