I apologize or my earlier lack of reading comprehension.:(

Just checked 10.013.6 on another Mac, wrks fine for me.

To rebuild the Launch Services easily get the 10.13 version of Onyx...

https://www.titanium-software.fr/en/onyx.html

If that doesn't work...

Are you running any VPN, Anti-Virus, or Cleaning apps?

We need to see what all is running, a report from this will not display any personal info...

Using EtreCheck - Apple Community

EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac. It will not display any personal info. Give it Full Disk Access.

Give etrecheck Full Disk Access before running.

Thanks for Old Toad’s etrecheck instructions…

your courteous apology is not needed in this particular context , I feel

on the other hand anything courteous in this day n age is more than welcome

therefore , thank you

????onix is for Sequoia !

the other one , due to your kindness has older versions , which I'll run tomorrow

( midnight my time now )

what you appear not to have read/understood is that my IMac 27 mid 2011 came to me about two weeks ago ,

you can't get greener than I ! :(

no VPN , no aspirin ( anti virus ) but I use sparingly ccleaner , only to clean cache and I have uninstalled two apps

I do not feel the following to be of any interest , but I boot from external SSD made in OWC

did not have the bottle , at my very advanced age , to replace the spinner eight thousand and something RPM with an SSD

not knowing that Thunderbolt on IMac mid 2011 does not work , I most hopefully bought a Lacie Thunderbolt 2

an arm and a leg for me

the fix is simple - I posted a cry of help under the name < a stab in the dark > no answers until now

make a bootable something , install Yosemite , apply Thunderbolt firmware v 1.0

reboot into High Sierra and Bob's your uncle

for the life of me I cannot find Thunderbolt firmware v 1.0

I do have a glimmer of hope that after you read what EtreCheck says maybe , maybe a solution for Thunderbolt may be found

on the other hand I cannot afford a fresh install , because the IMac came with Capture One , paid and done with

Capture One is out of my league , pricewise

my most sincere apologies for spilling the bad beans on you

not even in the middle of the Atlantic on a small sailboat , singlehanded , I felt so lonely as I do now

kindest thanks
