Problem with Siri’s name

My 93-year-old father cannot pronounce SIRI. Is there a way I can change the name SIRI to something else? Like Jack?

Hello Da1956,

You could try Vocal Shortcuts to assign another name to Siri: Use Vocal Shortcuts on iPhone - Apple Support.

Do not use "Siri Request" when setting it up (it's at the beginning of the list); this is a different thing. Instead, scroll down the list to the SYSTEM section where you'll find Siri proper.

A word of warning: I'm not very successful using Vocal Shortcuts. I have to repeat the key word several times for it to trigger the vocal shortcut.

EDIT: you can also trigger Siri by pressing the side button (on iPhone with Face ID) or the main button (iPhones with Touch ID).

Hi Da1956,

welcome to the Apple (user-to-user) Community!

Thank you for your post. It is wonderful that your father has your help!

Would it work for your father if he just presses a button for Siri and makes his request?

Eg: On an iPhone using iOS18: you can:

"Activate Siri with a button

"When you activate Siri with a button, Siri responds silently when iPhone is in silent mode. When silent mode is off, Siri responds out loud. To change this behavior, see Change how Siri responds.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • On an iPhone with Face ID: Press and hold the side button.
    • On an iPhone with a Home button: Press and hold the Home button."

Above is from : Use Siri on iPhone - Apple Support

Else: It may help us, if you let us know which device model (iPhone, iPad, Mac) and which OS (operating system) version is installed.

All the best :-)
