We were having issues with my wife’s libre3 losing connection, but the last 2 units won’t even scan to start. She is having to use the reader that came with the sensors. We have updated the phone and app. Abbott let it slip that the sensors are having trouble connecting to apple phones. Is anyone else having this issue? Any fixes?

Perhaps so, but the 2 had significant problems for quite some time. They finally got that ironed out, mostly, but the 3 has been a problem since day one. Some people are able to use it without issues, many are not.
Check their support forums and Reddit threads. The consensus seems to be the best way to deal with it is to use the dedicated scanner or switch to a different brand.
This isn't new. Abbot have had significant problems with both iPhones and Android devices for years.
We didn’t have the issue of not connecting until she went to the 3.
