Bought a new iPhone 16 Pro today. Requires update to ios 18.3.1 when connecting online. Will not update, - starts with a warning that it will take many hours, and sometimes days. Then it stops and does not go any further.
Anyone with experience and good suggestions?
When you say online, are you just on Wifi on your iPhone or did you connect your iPhone to your computer? If using Wifi, how strong is your Wifi connection? Is the phone plugged in and over 50% in charge? It shouldn't take days or even hours to update, but that be affected by the Wifi strength where you are.
You could if you want, update the phone using your computer with Finder on Mac, or iTunes on Windows.

Make sure that you are connected to a strong broadband wi-fi and the phone is connected to power so the wi-fi will not go to sleep. It shouldn't really take that long.
Have you completed activation of the phone, or are you in the process of doing that? If it does not begin the download and update of the update, then you should force restart the iPhone to get it to start over again. Force restart iPhone - Apple Support
The Wi-Fi network is in place and good (speed down approx 240 Mbps)
