Reusing of the SSD disk from my old MacBook (2015)

I got the internal SSD drive from my old MacBook (Intel I7 from
2015 early) (one terra) and installed it as an external drive on
my new Mac mini M4 from 2024. Impossible to write on it; nor to
format it. Because it is a system disk .Should we put it in the
 trash?

Mac mini, macOS 15.3

Don't trash the drive. You should simply reformat it for use with the new computer.

Erase and reformat a storage device in Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support

To erase the disk you'll need to ensure that in Disk Utility you click View > Show All Devices. Then you can select the external drive device - not any indented volume or container below it - and perform an erase or partition.

You might also need to delete any APFS volume(s) that are already on that external drive before you can erase it - maybe.

If you can provide screenshots of the info that Disk Utility displays for the external drive and any containers and/or volumes that reside on it, we might be able to provide further assistance. One shot for each will be most helpful. Don't worry about the internal drive.

There must be a reason why reformatting is unavailable. System disk or not, it shouldn't be this difficult. Remember to select Show All Devices in Disk Utility.
