How do I create a transparent image box in the corner of my podcast video for YouTube?

Hi, I need some help...

I have a podcast that I record and publish on places like Spotify and Apple Podcasts, but I also put it on YouTube Podcasts. I haven't done much with the video element outside of a few graphics.

I've had a number of YouTube listeners request that I drop some pictures of things I'm talking about, but I've been resistant because of the added editing time. What I'd like to do is create a window that is in the corner of the video (think a traditional news broadcast) that I can drop pictures into. It really needs to be something that I could drop an image into and not have to worry about resizing it. And I'd need to be able to control how long the image is shown.

Is there any easy way to do this?

I've uploaded an image to show you where I'd like this image box to be. It would need to exist and be transparent until I wanted an image to show up.

Make sense? I hope so!! TIA!

There is a great "Picture in Picture" effect that comes with Final Cut Pro already.

Here is how I'd do this:

1) place the main video in the primary storyline.

2) add a picture as a connected clip, where you want it. Apply the Picture in Picture effect to it. Make all the adjustments so it is exactly how you want it.

3) (optional) Save Effects preset - this will make it so you can directly use your effect with all the adjustments above without having to make them again

4) Add as many images as you like, and apply the same effect saved in step 3. Easy and painless.

Note that this satisfies your requirements, especially if you do as suggested in step 3:

  • size is automatically saved
  • you can easily control when and for how long the image stays onscreen, just drag and adjust the edges as needed.

I just spent some time searching around for the Picture in Picture effect... can't find it.

⌘5: Stylize: "Look back with photos" (probably a name similar to this)

I tried applying the effect of "looking back with a photo" to the scene where you talk about [The silence of the Lambs] in the Podcast. Is this the effect you want? I agree with the viewers' opinions that it would be better if it would be easier to understand by listening to your story while looking at the photos.

Ok. Reporting back. I decided to take things a little further than just adding an image box... I also created some motion graphics for the box in addition to video segment bumpers to separate different segments of the podcast.

So, for the PIP feature, as suggested, I saved a video preset so I can just drop the effect onto images in my time line. Also, I decided to create a deck of images for the show in keynote, exporting the deck as a folder of images. That way, I'm able to keep every image the same size.

There was a bit of a learning curve involved in getting everything set up, but I think it worked out pretty well.

Here's a link to the new video. You can get a good idea of what I did by watching the first 4 mins or so.
