AirPods Max usb-c both buttons not working

I am writing this for the benefit of others who might have encountered the same issue. The buttons of my AirPods Max were not working. I tried resetting the AirPods Max, rebooting my iPhone and iPad, and other devices. After getting frustrated, I realized my left ear cup was upside down(L was inverted). Once I fixed it, everything magically worked.

My feedback, in case your buttons are not working, check the ear cups.
