I typed a document in pages on my iPad , and was trying to export and send (not an option in my drop-down menu so I sent to pdfexpert so I could email the document so others could open. Now it is visible but grayed out on both pages and pdfexpert. When I open from files it appears with simple a data count.

When you have a Pages for iPadOS v14.3 document open in iPadOS 18.*, there is very definitely an option to export on the menu directly below the open filename.
Export > PDF > Mail. That opens a new Mail compose window on the iPad with the PDF document attached. If it is a one-page PDF, it will not be an icon, and you will need to take it on a leap of faith that the attachment is a PDF.

Pages cannot open a PDF and it will appear grayed out for that reason. No need to use PDFExpert for the above activity.
Tested: M4 iPad Pro with iPadOS 18.3.1, Pages v14.3 for iPad.
Document won’t open, grayed out.
