Why does my iPhone video recording have no sound?

I can't hear any audio when I record a video but when someone sends me a video they recorded can hear it fine. I've checked my settings and everything is the same as my friend and her audio is fine. My storage is even close to being full so I know it had nothing to do with that

When an iPhone is connected to an external Bluetooth device (such as a car’s Bluetooth system or certain wireless headphones), the audio input may be routed to that device instead of the iPhone’s built-in microphone. If the connected device does not properly capture sound, video recordings can have no audio or very low audio.

Similarly, if your iPhone is connected to CarPlay, audio input might be affected, depending on how CarPlay handles the microphone and whether the external system allows for simultaneous recording. Some cars may override the iPhone’s mic completely, causing recorded videos to have no sound.

To ensure proper audio recording while capturing video:

  • Disconnect from Bluetooth before recording or manually switch the audio input to the iPhone’s microphone.
  • Disable CarPlay (if connected) while recording.
  • Use wired headphones with a mic if you need an external microphone input.
