How to connect a MIDI track to multiple Instrument tracks in the environment

I am trying to create a template where multiple MIDI tracks are routed to a single MIDI track where a MIDI processor is loaded. From the MIDI processor all MIDI tracks should be routed to Instrument tracks. (See schematics below) I am trying to create this routing with cables in the environment and have opened the mixer layer. I can route multiple MIDI tracks to the processor track, but when I try and connect the processor track to multiple instrument tracks, I can only connect to one of them. I read in the manual that when one "out" (triangle) has been connected, there will appear a second connector triangle, but this isn't happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

I am totally new to Logic, but I have created this kind of template in Cubase, Reaper, and Studio One previously. In these other templates, the routing has been done in the mixer window, where ins and outs have been connected between the tracks. Maybe this is different in the Logic environment. So my first try looks like this. (See screenshot) I am only able to get a single cable out from each track. /Hans

I have created a simplistic project layout with two MIDI tracks in a stack, one track with the INTONATOR MIDI plugin (AU), and two INSTRUMENT tracks in a stack. The MIDI tracks are set to receive and send on their individual MIDI channel. The MIDI track stack is set to send ALL MIDI.

The Plugin track is set to receive and send ALL MIDI channels.

The INSTRUMENT tracks are set to receive and send on their individual MIDI channel.

The INSTRUMENT track stack is set to send ALL MIDI channels (I would rather be able to set it to NO SEND)

I am not sure how to use the stacks and what they can do for the setup. Why do I need them?

The problem I am seeing is that both the MIDI tracks AND the INTONATOR plugin is sending on all MIDI channels, and the INSTRUMENT tracks will be receiving from both MIDI tracks AND the INTONATOR plugin.

Is there no way to route the MIDI out to a specific destination, so that the MIDI tracks out will ONLY go to the INTONATOR track, and the INTONATOR MIDI out will ONLY be received by the INSTRUMENT tracks.

Or. is there an inherent signal flow from top to bottom in the tracks chart that will prevent that a double MIDI stream will be received by the Instrument tracks?

Thanks,

I watched the video but I am not sure how to go about this using track stacks.

Here's what I need:

Multiple MIDI recordings on separate MIDI channels need to be routed to a dedicated track with the Art Vista INTONATOR plugin. The plugin processes the individual MIDI channel content and the MIDI is forwarded to corresponding instrument tracks where the processed MIDI is playing back independently on various Kontakt instruments.

I am totally new to Logic Pro, so I am trying to grasp how it can be done in Logic. I thought the environment would be the best place to create any MIDI routings within Logic.

Thanks,

I don't know if this is correct, but my understanding is that I create a track stack for all instrument tracks containing Kontakt instances. The Intonator plugin is loaded onto the track stack, and it will be routed to all tracks within the stack. the Kontakt instance on each track just need to be set to its specific receive channel.

Will this rack stack configuration negatively affect the possibility of individual treatment of the Kontakt tracks within the stack? All tonal instrument tracks will have to reside in this track stack.

Also, I still need MIDI tracks that connect to the Intonator on the Track Stack. The intonator is always processing in real-time when the song is played back from MIDI and the content on the MIDI tracks at the time of playback will determine the intonation. So, the intonation cannot be written to the instrument track at the time of recording. The intonation info is never saved to any track.

The Environment is indeed a powerful option that allows you to create quite complex custom layers that can handle almost any MIDI transform. I love it, but unfortunately development has been stuck for over 20 years... . You should take a look here:

I don't know exactly how the INTONATOR plugin works, make sure you install the Audio Unit version of the plugin as Logic doesn't recognize the VST format.

Besides the powerful but dusty Environment on one and the easy to use Track Stacks on the other hand, there is a third option, a more modern and advanced approach by writing your own code in JavaScript with the built in Midi FX plugin Scripter.

You can have your 16 (and more!) tracks/channel strips with individual instruments in a Track Stack. The big advantage of Track Stacks is exactly that you have easy access to the individual instruments they contain.

Apart from the fact that I don't really know how the INONATOR plugin works, why do you use Software Instruments and external Midi Tracks at the same time? And depending on the MIDI Input (ports) MIDI Channels of the individual tracks they should receive or not receive MIDI (Select a track and make you adjustments in the Track Inspector on the left side) . Unfortunately, I can not find a trial version of the plugin, so we could try out the routings.

Thanks yoyoBen,

Being new to Logic, I assumed that MIDI tracks can both be a live MIDI input and host a recorded MIDI sequence? The arrangement with separate MIDI tracks and Instrument tracks is necessary for all MIDI channels to be processed together, (compare it to all orchestra musicians being in the same room while performing, to be able to intonate relative to each other). After the processing in the INTONATOR plugin, channel specific intonation data for each MIDI channel is sent to each Kontakt instrument. I'd be happy to offer you an NFR to see if you can create a project template. There is more info about this intonation system here: https://www.artvista.net/intonator.html
