Can’t copy CDs to ITunes

Hello yall!

I’ve finally treated myself to a new MacbookAir 2024 after rocking a very outdated 2009 windows laptop until it finally died a few weeks ago.

anyway, with the Mac I’ve also bought an external DVD/CD/Bluray player, which worked pretty well with both Blu-ray and DVD.

but the CDs turned out to be a big struggle….

i cannot open them in iTunes properly. The player boots up, I can see the song names and album title, but once I start importing them I get an error along the lines of "(title of song) can’t be imported due to an error in converting", which results in the player also just shutting off…

the player CAN play CD files, it works playing them in VLC, but copying them via drag and drop or by clicking import in VLC also doesn’t work.

at this point I’m clueless on what to try further… I really looked forward to properly using my CD collection again and absolutely didn’t expect such a big issue with it.

i hope someone has an idea how to fix this!

thanks in advance :)

"its official published CDs of various types and bands, previously I’ve always ripped straight to wav - but whatever option I chose on the new MacBook it still throws up that error… [...]and it at least looks like it should be the same in the current music program … but just doesn’t work?"

Importing Music:

Are these off-the-shelf purchased CDs? Or are they CDs with MP3 audio files(from music to recorded conferences). Note that, I can import MP3 file just fine from burn CDs --my CDs happen to be ancient, (decades olde, let's just say). As for importing them, here is how to do so: Import Songs from CDs into Music on Mac - Apple Support

Importing Files to iTunes on Sequoia:

You can't. iTunes is not a feature of Sequoia; it was discontinued in the macOS generations back. So, the Music App seems to be what you need to use here. Are these MP3 Files?

  1. Create: a folder on your Desktop.
  2. Open: Music app
  3. Create: a new Playlist.
  4. Drag: the music into the folder from the Desktop
  5. Drag: these file into the play list.

Sorry, force of habit. iTunes was what’s always been on the previous laptop. Yes it’s the music app I’ve attempted it with.

the usual route was opening iTunes (I suppose now Music), clicking import, choosing the Disc drive, checking to see if titles and numbers are correctly displayed, choose a file type to rip/convert to and wait.

its been very easy and straightforward all these years.

and it at least looks like it should be the same in the current music program … but just doesn’t work?
