Backing up downloaded Apple Music tracks to external media

Hello. I recently subscribed to Apple Music to use the Sync Library feature, only for many of the songs in my library to become "ineligible" on any device except those that I synced manually through cable (an older iPhone and my newest iPad).

With the desire to archive and protect my 100GB+ music library, my only option seems to be exporting it to some form of external media, to preserve as much of the library that I can that isn't purchased from iTunes. How would I go about doing this?

Accessing Music with Music Subscription:

You need to download each item (click the cloud with a down arrow) from your iTunes Purchases library, and then export the playlist from the library. As for accessing it between devices, you can sign up for an Apple Music Subscription, and all will be accessible between your device’ Library.

  1. Go here: Subscribe to Apple Music - Apple Support
  2. As it Reads:access your music library across your devices.

““Backing up iTunes music to external media: […]I am not sure about clearing the cache since I want to get the songs to also display and be playable on my Windows PC in addition to my iPhone (which does not have enough space to sync my 100GB+ song library)

Lagging Downloads:

A. Keeping Clean Storage:

  • Clearing the Caches:

My User Tip Clearing the caches for an iPhone would not apply to Mac and PCs. But, you should clear System Data, nonetheless for consistent app issues.

  • Keeping Free Storage:

As for not having enough free storage, never full the storage capacity to 100%. Keeping %20 free is wise for a high capacity drive (500GB). keeping 40% free is wise for low-capacity drives(128GB)

B. Disable VPNs:

Are you using a VPN? If so, disable it. The connection can get a bit laggy at times with it enabled.

C. Force Quit All Apps:

If it still is inaccessible, Force Quit it. Go To:

First, get the Finder: [command+tab] Use it to Access your Mac when Something is Not Responding - User Tip

Then, use Force Quit...

  1. Go to: Apple menu
  2. Select: Froce Quit...
  3. Select: the downloading apple
  4. Click: the Force Quit... button
  5. Click: the Force Quit... Button.
  6. Restart your Mac

Backing up iTunes music to external media: Is there something I should do? Should I wait until the updating to cloud music library completely finishes (even if it'll take more hours) before I try to take further action?[…]

You Should Clear the Caches:

Force Restart your iPhone > clear the caches*** > try this once more:

***How to Clear the Caches:

Prior activity may still be in the caches of the app. So, clear System Data, and see if that fixes this. Use my User Tip: How to Clear "System Data" in your iPhone’s Storage - Apple Community

I am already subscribed to Apple Music and have Sync Library enabled. The only songs that are available to be synced across multiple computers/devices are songs purchased from iTunes--for everything else, only the metadata of the albums and their respective tracks are downloaded and the song gets marked as "Ineligible", preventing me from downloading or playing the song on any other device. Some songs that are based on albums I had downloaded (and thus the songs can be played) are downloaded incorrectly, feature incorrect cover art, or play the wrong song.

The ineligible status should only apply to locally stored tracks that have failed to integrate with your iCloud Music Library. You shouldn't see the same status against any tracks when viewing a separate library that sees everything in the cloud. Tracks downloaded from the cloud shouldn't become ineligible.

Have you changed Apple IDs at any point? A common reason for tracks to be marked as ineligible is if they were purchased with a different ID.

Getting completely the wrong track on a different copy of the library sounds most unhelpful. I cannot think why that might be the case, but as long as the correct tracks exist on a computer somewhere and function properly what you could try to do is remove from from your cloud music library in a different library, which will then mark them as removed in the primary library. After which you can try adding them back to the cloud (select, right-click, add to library) and see if the match or upload correctly this time.

After some further waiting, I noticed that my Music app is now downloading songs from my Mac to the cloud; However, it is a very slow process and after several hours has only now reached the "C" songs (and I'm worried that it might have skipped a few songs since they still read "Ineligible" even after uploading, will it try to add those again later?).

Can I put my Macinotsh in Sleep mode to let it continue to upload songs to my Cloud music library at low power while I'm away from my computer or need to sleep overnight? Or do I need to keep it awake for the best results? I ask since I'm not sure about my Macintosh's overall health (it's kind of slow and exhibits mild issues with shutting down the past few days, restarting instead and thinking I did it because of "a problem").

It has been a few hours and it appears that the A and B tracks have been uploaded successfully, but the tracks that start with C and onwards still show "Ineligible" on my PC and other devices, despite the Activity window now being in the F tracks as of this writing. Is there something I should do? Should I wait until the updating to cloud music library completely finishes (even if it'll take more hours) before I try to take further action?

I wonder if that is part of the problem. If your Mac is unstable then perhaps it cannot complete the uploading/matching process correctly and in a timely fashion. Putting your Mac to sleep suspends all background tasks, so don't do that. Do you have backups of your data? Have you run Disk First Aid?
