Set Default Font for footnotes in Pages?

An answer to a similar question in another thread said to click between the footnotes on the first page of the document; that would highlight all footnotes, then change font in the first footnote and all would change. My first page only has one footnote. I looked at the first page that had two footnotes, and did what was suggested. It didn’t work. Can anybody help please?

A related question is: it appears this has to be done with each document. Can one set a default font for footnotes that will apply to all documents? I am using Pages 14.3

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

There is a predefined Footnote paragraph style in Pages v14.3. When you insert a Footnote, Pages will default to using that specific paragraph style.

You could create a new document from a blank template, add a new Paragraph style (e.g. Footnote Custom), and then save that template. Use that template when you know you will want that custom Footnote treatment. It will still default to the standard Footnote style and you can then select that Footnote text and apply the custom Footnote paragraph style. There will be no batch correcting existing documents though.

Thank you very much for going to the trouble of responding. I'm not getting very far. I set up the template in Times New Roman 10pt. Then, when I created a new document from that template it reverted to my default font (Garamond). I'm probably doing something wrong.

I also followed the Pages user guide to change an existing document: click one footnote; the edges of all footnotes highlight in blue. They did. Then go to Format sidebar, select Text tab, then Style, then use the controls in the Font section to change how the text looks. I did all that, but no 'Update' button came up and I couldn't save the changes!

I don't want to presume on your generosity, but if you can offer any further hints, I would greatly appreciate it. Many thanks for your time.

(I have been a Pages user for years, but haven't needed to progress too far beyond the basics. Now, however, I am working with some very long documents – hence the issue.)
