Why can't I directly drag songs from iTunes to the desktop for editing in Logic on my Mac?

I am a song writer that have been a dedicated Mac user for years since it was the computer for the arts with plain and straight forward controls

For some reason I cant drag a song directly from my library to the desktop for loading into Logic to edit and master.

Now there seems to be added steps to make this a cumbersome process...

What is up with that ?

It changed from simple to difficult !

There is no copyright infringement since they are my songs

Please help !
