Missing frame(s) in iPhone video

I just noticed that one of my IPhone 14 Pro videos, 4k, 30fps, SDR, iOS 18.3, shot on native camera app, was missing a frame about 90 seconds into the video. I have never seen this before!

However, when I trimmed the video ever so slightly with native Photos app, the frame magically reappeared and there were no other issues. Seems like the missing frame was actually captured but was missing in the playback until I edited.

This is very odd and I am wondering if anyone else has seen this…

I have seen a post from 2023 describing the same issue but there was no resolution and only one comment

  • Try playing the original, untrimmed video in another app (e.g., iMovie or a Mac).
  • Restart your iPhone and check if the issue happens again.
  • Record another long 4K 30fps SDR video and see if it occurs again.
  • If it happens repeatedly, try resetting settings: Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset All Settings.
