I purchased an iPhone 16 last week, and on average use my phone for about 5 hours a day according to my screen time, and all light use (emails, safari, WhatsApp, and messages, Google maps), I’ve done no video or music streaming, and by 10 pm each day, my phone is completely dead. Typically by 6 pm it is at 20%

Two of those are not light use, WhatsApp and Google Maps. It’s easy to determine where the drain is by looking at app activity on a daily basis (last 24 hours) and last 10 days. Please post your battery usage by app and activity by app list. Here’s mine,

First i would recommend checking your settings to see what is using up the battery. There may be other apps using location such as Maps does. Make sure you don't have Hotspot turned on when not in use.
Next what charger are you using because there are lightening chargers and slow charge options. These would affect the battery differently.
Settings/Battery will tell you more info about your battery use and health.
You’re welcome. The most any app should have is 10 to 15 minutes of background activity. The exception is an email app. If the service provider is pushing mail to your iPhone it could add up if you receive a lot of emails.

WhatsApp is having major issues, it’s got 2+ hours of background use. That’s not normal.
WhatsApp has been updated over 25 times for bug fixes since iPhone 18 was released in late September. That’s not normal either. Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Messenger etc.) is having major issues with most of their apps.
Open a support ticket with Meta/WhatsApp and then delete the app and download a new copy from Apple App Store. Check weekly or more frequently for updates.
