I have Adobe subscription and acronis installed on Mac Mini; Mac Book Pro does not have these programs - the question is whether these programs can cause MAC Mini M1 to be laughed.
Any anti-malware, anti-virus, or even Acronis's Cyber Protection suite is likely interfering with the performance of your M1 mini. Completely remove the Acronis software per the vendor's instructions, reboot the Mac, and assess if better performance with Word is a result.
The problem remained after uninstalling Acronis - I did a clean OS install, and the WORD file didn't work correctly; there was a massive lag, and the Mac mini was clean - just Microsoft Office. I installed Parallels and Windows on the Mac, and everything works without a problem.

Install WPS Office.
It works without any problem.
I use the built-in Apple Time Machine facility to an external SSD drive that is 2 1/2 or 3 times the size of my internal Mac mini drive.
