Are you saying when the screen locks on your iPhone, it powers off completely? That shouldn't be happening. Unless the health of the battery has declined to the point the phone is protecting itself.
Open Settings > Battery > Battery Health and if it says 80% or less, the batteries health has degraded to the point it needs to be replaced at your Apple Store Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider.
