iPhone 6s Wi-Fi issue after iOS 15.8.3 update

My i6s updated to iOS 15.8.3. Since then, it indicates that wi-fi is connected with the familiar green check mark, but the wi-fi logo does not appear but rather LTE appears. My service is with AT&T. I am unable to do most wi-fi activities but cannot connect to Roomba to clean the floors, etc. Please advise.

iPhone Wi-Fi Update:

Wi-Fi overrules Cellular. So, these apps are apparently not working with Wi-Fi. Have they worked in the past in Wi-Fi? Wi-Fi 6 is much newer in technology than an iPhone 6s. Not s certain about that being an issue, given you are able to connect to this network.

my device is an iphone 6s, version i06 15.8.3. It automatically updated to version 15.8.3 recently. i have owned the device for several years, it has worked flawlessly in all aspects including wi-fi functions until it updated to 15.8.3. I do not have full wi-fi functions now, I am unable to determine what is the actual problem or how to correct it.

It could be many things. So, what exactly are issue you are having? Is it just certain networks? Or is it all networks?

Troubleshooting iPhone WiFi:

Try these thoughts:

A. Clear Temporary Internet Files:

If connecting is unsuccessful, try clearing out your Temporary Internet FilesHistoryCache, and Cookies

Go Here: Clear your Safari Browser History and Set Up Content Blockers on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

and...

B. Try manually restarting your iPhone:

  1. Go To: Settings
  2. Select: General
  3. Scroll to: the Very Bottom
  4. Select: Shut Down
  5. Slide Finger: to the Right
  6. Wait: 30 Seconds
  7. Power One: the iPhone
  8. Try this Once More

and...

C. Troubleshooting Connectivity:

Wi-Fi: If your iPhone won’t Connect to a Wi-Fi Network - Apple Support

and...

D. Reset your Network Settings:

  1. Go Here: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't Connect to a Wi-Fi network - Apple Support
  2. Scroll To: Reset your Network Settings.
  3. IMPORTANT: Take some screenshots of your network settings so that you can have something to refer to when adding them back. Then, trash the screenshots when all is added back.

Contact Apple Support:

Then give Apple a call. Not being able to use the device is the issue here that is getting I the way. This is a common phenomenon, but there never seems to be a direct answer to getting around the Terms & Conditions (and if I ever came across this issue myself to troubleshoot it first hand, I’d be able to troubleshoot it).

A suggestion was made to eliminate VPN. In doing this and upon resetting, Wi-Fi became operative. Slowly but surely all apps have been reset and are working except for bluetooth hearing aids in auto connect mode. However, the i6 locks up when I try to accept the new ‘icloud terms and conditions’. Thanks so much for your help!

You are welcome

Excellent job troubleshooting!

Accepting the Terms & Conditions:

The issue of not being able to accept the Terms & Conditions is a phenomenon reported on these forums for years, yet there is no direct answer. One thing that often works is updating your iPhone’s iOS version to the most-recent version: If you can't Accept iCloud Terms and Conditions - Apple Support

Update Using a Computer:

Have a Computer Handy? You are having issues with internet connections. So, try using a computer to update you iPhone. Go here: Update your iPhone Using a Computer - User Tip. If any updates are available, they will install, sure enough.

"[...]I think LTE is replacing the wifi connection for receiving email and using web browsers.[...]"

-------

No. "LTE" is a service type in the area in which you currently are; ou don't always see "LTE" representing the Cellular service you are using. And you are connected how you are connected. But, if you lose the WiFi connection, then Cellular would take over (given it is enabled). So, if you ever have issues with eMail through WiFi, then disable WiFi and enable Cellular.

Disable Mail and your eMail Apps in Cellular:

If you do not want to have Cellular making use of eMail, then you can disable it from be an option in your settings. That would avoid this all together.

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: Cellular
  3. Swipe to: CELLULAR DATA
  4. Toggle OFF: Mail and all other email apps you use.

I have tried all the above that was suggested. Results: When I restart the phone for the first 10 seconds or so the wifi icon appears at the top of the phone. But then the icon flickers and is replaced by "LTE" which remains. Under settings Wi-Fi has a green arrow and displays the router name. So it appears to be connected. But I think LTE is replacing the wifi connection for receiving email and using web browsers.

I don't remember the identities, but I tried to update some items, one of them being the roomba which (I used the roomba app on this phone) is connected to the router wirelessly. When I did so, the message came up "Unable to update, try again later". I saw this about 3 times on various items.

AT&T is the cellular service I use and it shows always. But before the version 15.8.3 update either WI-FI showed or LTE showed, but never both at the same time. I don't know how it operates, its just that this appears to be what is happening. i have had no issues with email. I have had issues with running up phone time costs when I am not on Wi-Fi. Also, I can't connect with some APPs like roomba. For instance, I have a bible study app that alerted me I needed to update it. When I went to update it, a message came up saying "The connection could not be made, try again later". Before the subject update to my phone, I had updated that app plus many others many times without incident.
