2024 M4Pro Mac Mini- tried partitioning, now can't find 100GBs

Hi everyone, called apple support 3 times, they escalated and haven't gotten back to me yet. I have a late 24 mini with 24Gb Mem, 500Gb SSD. Wanted to install Linux so I partitioned 100Gb as MSDOS FAT, didn't know if that's what I needed to do or not for running Linux, anyway, second or third time it worked and my APFS shrunk by 100Gb, but I can't see the Partition. Tried everything, from top down on First Aid from SSD to only container I see which has now a 400Gb APFS. Initially it had a 100Gb MSDOS-FAT disk but it didn't show in the container schematic under the Apple SSD. It disappeared when I tried to "image" it with a USB containing an Ubuntu version and LINUX OS. Neither worked on any partition, so I am now trying to recover this missing 100 gigs. Any ideas?

Installing Linux on a Mac:

Partition Type to Use:

Yes. You have chosen the correct format type.

Live CD:

You be able to find a link to create a Live CD. That would run atop your hard drive partition.

Back Up, then Perform the Formats, Once More:

If you have lost this 100GB, then format the disk. IMPORTANT: Create a Time Machine Backup of your macOS. That way, you can have something to restore it from, should you decide to recover the Mac.

Thanks a bunch @theLittles! I am trying to make myself impenetrable. I have been destitute (formerly did big things with M&A) I've had Advanced Persistent Threats from a tech group that's not happy with my advances in both tech knowledge cuz I don't give up[…] Heard if I setup on FreeBSD as my foundation, then I can run VMs to get my work done. You are most welcome. So, what’s the fix?

Thank you for the screenshot.

VM Being an Option:

Im not so certain about a Virtual Machine working for this. Note that for VMWare Fusion, a Mac that is has a Silicon (not Intel) processor, can only run Windows 11 on it as a Virtual MachineWindows 10 or below is just not an option. I feel more confident with a “Yes” as an answer if this is an Intel-based Mac.

Side Note in VMWare Fusion:

As for VMWare Fusion, note that it is now a subscription-only purchase-type that is paid for annually. Arrogant though it may seem, the Developer was bought out by another company, and that’s why this change to subscription-only purchase-type has occurred. If you have purchased your license prior to a specific date, then the subscription does not apply to it.

Thanks a bunch @theLittles! I am trying to make myself impenetrable. I have been destitute (formerly did big things with M&A) I've had Advanced Persistent Threats from a tech group that's not happy with my advances in both tech knowledge cuz I don't give up. knowing my MAC addresses to my systems and not being behind a firewall made me an easy target. Heard if I setup on FreeBSD as my foundation, then I can run VMs to get my work done. Level 10, nice! Perhaps you can help this fish navigate a bit more, I need some evidence in my logs which I have tons of, any guidance would be appreciated. Apple Support concluded that even though my OS said Sequoia 15.3, the GUI looked deprecated. Trying to right some things for good folks who liked my honesty a few years back and like I said, I do not quit until I win.

FWIW, you can use VMWare Fusion Pro for free if it is for personal use and not business.

Thanks for the Info!

Browsing it, I see the words “upheaval” “angst” and “layoffs” -“and that shows what a difference changing this to subscription-only can have such an impact on a developer.

So, what’s the link for the free app? I did a bit of research and came up with the following link: https://www.vmware.com/products/desktop-hypervisor/workstation-and-fusion. Is that the link you are talking about?
