Why is my iPad Air M2 battery draining so fast?

I purchased a new iPad Air M2 last month and today the battery died within 3 hours. I use it nearly exclusively for taking notes for class using Notability. What is wrong that the battery is already draining so quickly? I had no other apps open and brightness ~75%. Bluetooth and Wifi were on and an Apple Pencil Pro was connected. A week and a half ago I could use it all day and not even be down to 20% battery.

Hey, I’m facing the same issue, unfortunately, with my iPad Air M2 11” (WiFi), which I bought in September 2024. Whenever I use the Apple Pencil Pro to take notes or just use it in general, the battery drains ridiculously fast, and the iPad heats up. My brightness is always below 50%, and I don’t even have that many apps, I only charge it until 80% and recharge it before hitting the 20%. However, when I use the iPad without the Pencil—like tapping with my finger or using a Bluetooth keyboard—it works perfectly fine.

I’ve already contacted Apple Support twice with no successful solution. They told me to wait for a software update that would fix the problem (or to get the iPad checked at an Apple Store, where I’ll probably hear the same thing). I fear that by the time a fix arrives, my battery might already be damaged, or its lifespan could decrease due to this issue. I wouldn’t find it cool if Apple’s bug ends up damaging my device, and makes me pay for repairs later when the warranty expires.

Unfortunately, not many people are taking this problem seriously, and there isn’t much discussion about it. I assume this issue might be specific to this model series.

If you have concerns regarding your iPad or its battery performance, you might be best advised to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support - and request a remote diagnostic test.

You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively and perhaps easier, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad - and, if a problem is identified, explore your available options:
