How can I remove Stickers added to a text on Messages?

Adding Stickers to a text is a fun addition. But if you touch the wrong sticker, not only does it attach right away, it’s impossible to delete it. There should be an in between step; confirming the sticker before adding it to a Text. Please help !

Holding down on the stickers and sliding to the text box, gives you an X option to delete. But often it take 5/6 try’s. It’s frustrating at the least.
