Spell checking not working

Spell checking is not working. I made sure that Pages/Preferences/ has "Correct Spelling Automatically" selected.

Pages can't even spell a 2 letter word! Since using the latest version of pages I have noticed it is randomly underlining correctly spelled words. I've been ignoring it up until now, but it has started becoming so annoying I'm convinced it is broken. Just to be certain, I have "check spelling by typing" switched on and nothing else. Today, it is insisting the word "by" is mispelled. I haven't asked Pages to check the grammar of the sentence it appears within, so why does it continue to pick out random words such as 'their', 'there' when they are correctly used. How can I stop it but keep the spell check on? I'd also like to know how I can get Pages to stop highlighting words it doesn't have in its spelling database (but clearly should).

Spell check weirdness: some words seen as wrong sometimes but not others? Sometimes, for some words, they're marked wrong sometimes but not other times. Also, sometimes for these words, if you right-click on them, there is no option to learn or ignore the word. Let me give you an example of the first problem here: And as for the second problem, when I right-click on say "Harmen" in the "Why, Harmen, why" sentence above, there is no option to ignore/learn.

Pages-iPad OS-Spell check doesn’t recognize common words. Out of 32 words in the first para of a writing project, Pages on iPad identified 16 correctly spelled ones as wrong. Language is set to U.S.English. I’ve tried toggling spellcheck on and off. No help. Tried quitting and restarting Pages. No help. Tried rebooting the iPad. No help. Thanks in advance for any help. Found it. In the Pages document go to the Main Menu and click on Edit scroll down to Spelling and Grammar and click on "Check Spelling While Typing". It's not enough to select spell checking in Pages Preferences.

And in Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar panel, change Automatic by Language to your specific language (e.g. U.S. English, etc.). That will provide more accurate spell-checking.
