Configuring Logic Pro (iPad) drum kit articulations by velocity values

Hi everybody, greetings from Germany!

I’ve been looking for a solution to my problem for quite a while now but haven’t found one so far. Maybe someone here can help me:

I am using the internal drum kits of Logic Pro (iPad!) for fingerdrumming. I’ve set up my midi pad controller so I can trigger specific sounds by the pads. Now I can only trigger either closed or fully opened hihats. It would be great to also have e.g. half opened hihats. The support of my pad controller mentioned that I could configure my pads to trigger articulations by specific velocity values. To do so I need to configure the corresponding velocity range settings (e.g. 0-30=closed, 31-59=half open etc.) directly in Logic Pro. However, I can’t find a way of doing so. Hope this is possible on iPad after all. Any kind of help is highly appreciated! Thank you very much in advance!

Multi-channel kits in Logic Pro for iPad allow users to access multiple channel strips, effect plug-ins, and routings. Users can also customize drum kits by changing the sound characteristics and level of each piece.

How to access multi-channel kits in Logic Pro for iPad

  1. In the Mixer, tap the Instrument slot on an instrument channel strip
  2. Tap Replace
  3. Choose a multi-output instance from the menu

How to use multi-output instruments in Logic Pro for iPad

  1. Tap the Add button (+) above the Solo button on the instrument channel strip
  2. Create an aux channel strip to the right of the multi-output instrument channel strip
  3. Tap the Add button (+) again to create more aux channel strips

Hey EddieGrey,

thanks for the help but your suggestion won’t do the trick. I’ve tried the FX but it will only alter the velocity (say loudness) of the open HiHat and not the articulation (degree of opening). But thanks to your advice I fumbled around with some other midi FX and found that the modifier FX can alter the articulation values when set to input=velocity and output=mod wheel. The only drawback is that I have to isolate the HiHat notes since there is obviously no way to assign the modifier to affect only a specific note/pad (A#1 in my case). But maybe I just haven’t found this setting yet?

any ideas here?
