Apple Mail doesn't download all emails.

Apple mail (16.0 (3818.100.11.1.3) in OS 15.0.2, and a (2023) Mini downloads messages selectively, leaving out even replies. Gmail, my backup which is on a browser not desktop app, gets all messages quickly and accurately. iCloud mail in Safari (18.0.1 (20619.1.26.31.7) suffers the same problem.

This has been going on for months and I've tried many substitutes, i.e. Canary, Thunderbird, Shortwave, Airmail, Chuck, etc. They are almost all nicer to look at and they are also all Google-centric, hence get mail in a timely manner. As it is, none of them (except web based Gmail) can even log onto the iCloud mail.

Someone in this forum suggested that I dump Gmail but I don't want to dump it on Safari, Chrome, etc.

Thoughts, anyone? I'm sort of running out of patience.

If you have tried several local email clients and none of them perform well, it sounds like you need some serious cleanup of what is stored in your mail accounts. I would use a web browser to login to each account and do a major cleanup. Search for the largest attachments in each mailbox, save the attachments, and then delete those mails. Also take some time to use search for large numbers of marketing and other unnecessary messages and delete them all as well. Once cleaned up using a web browser, then move back to the Mac, delete all of the accounts that you have set up in local client applications, reboot, and then add the accounts back. Hopefully a major mail cleanup will resolve the issues with performance.
