How can I resolve App Purchase issues on iPad?

when i try to download an app on my ipad i get a message "there was a problem with a previous purchase see organiser to rectify" the visa card i use has expired but when i go to purchases all the edit buttons are greyed out i think it may be to do with family purchases as my husband is shown as organiser but he can't do anything either is there any way of getting rid of the family option on my ipad, grateful for any assistance as i am tearing my hair out and apple chat is no help whatsoever
